What it is made of, what size to buy, and how to wash it
Every piece is cut from the same linen and finished the same way. Only the colour, the size and the piece change.
The cloth
- 100% linen (flax), plain weave, about 165 g/m² after washing. Natural slubs and the odd darker fleck are part of the cloth.
- Garment-dyed: each piece is sewn in undyed linen and dyed afterwards, so the thread matches.
- Stonewashed with water and pumice, then tumble dried, which softens it and takes out most of the shrinkage.
- Duvet covers and the pillowcase pairs have a 2 cm flat flange; sheets have plain hems.
- Duvet covers close with coconut-shell buttons and have four cotton corner ties inside.
The colours
- Chalk: a soft off-white, lighter than raw linen but not optical white. Shows marks and flecks most.
- Oat: warm sandy beige, closest to undyed flax. Varies a little between dye lots.
- Dusk: muted grey-blue, greyer by day and bluer under lamps. Wash separately at first.
- Charcoal: a washed dark grey, not black. Shows pale lint; softens slowly towards slate over many washes.
Sizes
US bed sizes. Measurements are approximate and can vary by up to 2 cm.

Sizes include the 2 cm flange, so the part that covers the duvet is about 4 cm smaller each way.

The fitted sheet has a 15 in (38 cm) pocket with elastic all round and fits mattresses up to about 14 in (35 cm) deep. Pillowcases in the set have plain edges and an envelope back.

Two cases per pair, with a 2 cm flange round all four edges (in addition to the pillow size) and a 20 cm envelope fold-over.
Washing
- Wash at 40°C on a gentle cycle with a mild liquid detergent. Wash Dusk and Charcoal on their own until the rinse water runs clear.
- Leave out bleach and fabric softener. Softener coats the fibre and makes linen less absorbent.
- Tumble dry low or line dry, and take it out while it is still slightly damp.
- Shake it out and put it straight on the bed, or iron it on a medium setting while damp if you prefer it smooth.
What to expect
- A little lint in the first few washes; clean the dryer filter.
- Noticeably softer after the first month of use and washing.
- Up to 2% more shrinkage on the first wash, less if you wash cool.
- Creases, always.
